Today, I want to find out what tips she has for people to be at their peak performance. Join me in my conversation today with Sabrina. Run back. I'm Brian V, and this is why we work today. Have the great pleasure speaking with Sabrina. Run back. Good day, Fine lady. Hey, Thanks, everyone for listening in. Thanks, Brian. You for having me on the show. My pleasure. What I started doing recently is asking people about their industry and then a little little brief bio. So what industry? Sabrina, are you in? And can you tell us a bit about yourself? Yeah. So I work as a hard on long surgery. P a. And that means anything in the chest. You have a problem. People come to us. And on top of that, I have more than 10 years experience in public health on neuroscience. So, through my own journey of moving across the world from when I was younger, 12 years old flew from China to the U. S. And when I got here, really, my mom was still going to school herself, and she got into a car accident. So every weekend, I have to be going to flea market just to sell some pots and pans, get things going on toe, contribute in some way now for people who are in a teenage years. I think I was in that position of just still learning English and discover who I am. But that also told me what hard work means. So that keeps me pushing forward, getting to master degrees and finally got my medical degree. And I just love operating, having something hands on. Have something that's changing. So I got into hard long surgery, moved to Houston. One of the best cardiac centers are all here. I'm finally thinking like, Hey, you know, made it. But that pressure of high intensity also made me would do cases back to back, working more than 80 plus hours a week and then still on top of that taking calls. I remember one day I woke up feeling super exhausted on my body, was aching, had a fever in a one degree. It wouldn't have been so bad except that I still had to scrap in while my hands said inside a patient's open chest. I know this case won't end for at least four or five hours on. My nurses were even taking pity on me and keep passing Deco on cough drop under my masters to keep me going and off course the next day when I woke up, there's a little medication is really not going to help. Our body knows it doesn't take an advanced medical degree to even tell you we got to rest, so I had to convince myself I really couldn't come in anymore. I called my boss on the other line, he answered. So great. Are you just telling me this now?...

And I felt a sense of Wow doesn't matter how much we're pushing, and we know that we're giving our all. But what, in other people's view, it seems like sometimes we're just numbers were just there to produce, and the concept of how we work on what we're producing is dis aligned in who we are. So we're just going to keep saying yes is and doing all those things, putting more way on our own shoulder. But it's exhausting for us. But sometimes it's hard to separate that, like how are we living and not just doing doing doing so? That's when I had to admit to myself, like I let myself get to that point on. All the complaints is not going to do me any good. I had to go back to my roots in neuroscience and public health, where studied stress management, self advocacy, self care and learning from other neuroscientists. Highlight positive psychologist to really come up with that simple system. How can we not being stuck? I believe people don't have a stress management issue. What we have is a boundary and leadership issue. We kind of forgot how to be our own life. Of course, you can't bring seeing other people. Sabrina, I'd like Thio. I have a question in a little bit later about how you help people get through these difficult situations or help people avoid these situations. But for why we work. I'm interested in what you said that you came from China. You Your mom was sick, and then at a very young age, you were outselling pots and pans. How old? How old were you? Was that the first sort of experience with work that you did? Yeah, actually, it ISS So I was 12. I just got here a few months and started enrolled to junior high. And then my mom got into that car accident. So then everything kind of stops. My mom had a time. My step dad also lost his job and things just wobbly. Now I came from a family where things are just taking care of, and then this is, like, completely flap around. So I felt like you know what? At least I'm practicing. At least I'm learning English. So that's when we started going to flea markets every weekend to do something on. I remember once I turn 16 that I start working in Party City. What? What is that? Um, party city. Is that a like a kind of big chain store for people who buy balloons? Costumes? Okay, those think So you did work. So from 12 years old, you were working at a flea market selling pots and pans, because was it? The main reason was because your mom got in the car accident or it was just something else that you could do and learn English. I think he's both is that we needed some kind of resource when people, um is in caught in the middle of she needed to go doctors recovery so she couldn't work. And then my son, after that, I had a his difficulty. So then it's a way for us to generate some revenue. I think at the time, I think none of us really have really great English. But you work at it on my personality. I'm the only girl of all my cousins are males. So I always had that inner thought off. I'm not any less. And then the boys or anybody else Why can't I be someone that I can try? This? I can be resourceful. I can't figure out. So I think from the young age I was that way and then just keep...

...doing things to get me somewhere. So how long did your stint last at Party City? So that was the first official job that you got at 16. Was working in a brick and mortar store at 16. Yeah, I think that lasted throughout high school until I was about to go to college. So just thinking myself. Do you think your mom's car accident pushed you towards the medical field? Or was it something that was always part of the plan for you, Whether your plan or your parents plan, who's ever remember? Right When you think about, like the Asian culture, they always The typical thing is medicine, law and engineering. But for me, I think I was always drawn to medicine because the way of you constantly doing something hands on and medicine, of course, you have the internal medicine ex, uh, who are more disease based on seeing outpatients, versus I like to be someone doing the procedures. So throughout high school, I purposely went to shadow people. Who are you medicine trying to explore that and the same thing in college every summer, Everyone to break. I'm doing something. So that solidified what I want to dio as a career on bond. Sometimes I felt like the number one question we always be asked is that What do you want to do when you grow up? But that question is actually holding us back instead of being at How do you wanna live when you grow up and that living part is what we're missing? I find that question and I realized it over the last year so that someone that I interviewed mentioned how debilitating or how much pressure is put on people when they're asked, What do you want to be when you grow up? Because a better question or an idea would be What would you like to experience? You know, like staying in the realm of that question is, what would you like to experience now and just have your hand in a few things? And if you find you're better at one thing more than the other, you have MAWR interest in this thing rather than that then that's a better way to say, What are you going to be? And you have to pick this career and especially as a child. Like what? What do you really know about that or your future that you're going to stay? Put all of your stake into this one thing and pursue it? But as you mentioned as an Asian culture, my dear wife being Korean, I have lots of experience with Korean Children and Korean families that pressure's Israel, and people not only are asked, what do you want to be, but they're told this is what you will be when you finish school. That's a lot of pressure, right? And you hear the common term of Tiger Mom. But I feel like my mom was never that way. I was very disciplined since I was a younger age, but because the way that I was brought up, I think as I grown she just kind of backed off because she also know I have a strong personality. I know what I want. I I can't always cap, uh, one, because this is a concept that most people are not definitive about clarity. If you know how you want to show up what you mean to have a personal mission And that bigger picture of how you wanted to live your life. Then we can reverse engineer. Most people are getting their hands like what you're saying. They have 10 different passions. They wanted to try everything. And then I asked, Do you want it to work at a snail pace on all of them? What do you want to get so clarifying solidified on your idea? Then you can launch like a rocket ship on that one or two things because you're so focused on it on. That's why I mentioned about boundary and leadership is what does that. And when...

...you say yes and no, because when you say no, it's actually a good thing. It means new opportunity. It means you are saying yes to the right thing and not distracting yourself. So in productivity, if you hear about Michael Hyah, he even talked about this. We need to spend 80% of the time in our genius zone on Aretha Zone. When understand, what are the things? We're really good at a marriage that with what we are passionate. What was it? 80% in your genius zone and what, 20 and what? So 80% is in the zone of genius and efficient. That means things you're really good at and you're passionate about, not one or the other, because if it's just something you're good at, not something you actually love to dio their destruction. They're not getting you to what you need to go in life. And if it's just your passion and you don't have the skill, guess what you need to change a different way. Whether you learn it, you strength it or you hire someone to do it for you. Otherwise, it's a hobby is not something sustainable. So that's the bigger question is what does that mean for something that you do that you actually love to dio? And you're really good at people most of time. Don't remember what that means. Sabrina, I have to commend you for coming or going to America at 12. Learning another language learning a degree. You know, you went middle school, elementary school. Were you there for elementary school as well? Eso 12 junior high juniors, starting in junior high middle school in high school like I have ah lot of experience with international students in that when I was in Canada, I worked as a resident manager. So we had students from all over the world coming. And I appreciate and commend you for the work that you do and did and learned because you went to a different culture and you learned everything in a different language. And you said at the beginning maybe your your ability wasn't as good as it is. So it was even more difficult. But you you went through it. You push through it. So I want to commend you. And and then you became a physician assistant s. So it's not like you. Well, I just went there and learned a little language and got a part time job doing whatever. No, now you're working in the medical field. So kudos to you for your hard work. So and I think that shows that what you're saying having that drive that your mom recognized in you toe to back off and allow you to find your own path, it gives credence. It gives some power behind the words that you're saying to help others. So I just wanted to say good job thank you. I think that one of the big thing about parenting for me, I so thankful that my mom was the one who kind of let me be me. And then, of course, there must be the level of trust that we have. So she allows me just toe live and just make a decision that I want to make for myself and because too much huddling or hand holding for even friends, family member or whoever you really care about it doesn't really mean that you are allowing them to grow. And that's one of the six sabotaging, um, tendencies that we, as leaders or even just a person, will have create influence, can accidentally diminishing other people's talent us inside out. So before we get into your more specifically into the consulting speaker aspect of what you...

...do, I would like to know the other part of what you do as a physician assistant. So what is a process that you go through? You know, you're still working. You have 1 ft in one thing and 1 ft in the other, and you're working very hard. I don't know the number of hours that you're working now. But what is the process that you go through at work? What do you do as a physician assistant? Yeah. So one thing I always love to tell people is whatever you wanted to decided to reconnect to your passion, you can do them on just be so sort of fed it. So I know medicine is do something really strong connected to me. So I still have that holding on versus my neuroscience background. This concept behavior changes boost our our mental immunity can elevate our performance. So I married both off them in the same sense. And I actually only work 5.5 days a week on Lee. 5.5 days that Z most people just work five. Generally speaking. I mean, here in Korea, a lot of people work. Six, but 5.5 is I work full time, right? You work full time. That's what you put a qualifier Onley 5.5 days, right? Because most people, what they have end up happening to do is they feel like when they're built a passion, career or passion business, and they needed to be in a seven days a week And then there's no turn off spot on. But that's what actually turns. They're poor passion into a poison on DSO. For me, medicine is way as a P A. We operate, we diagnose patients we prescribe. We figure out their disease condition with educate. So it's very much involved, just like a surgeon. But the schooling is different. We also go thio undergraduate and then go through a master degree and then board tested for medical board. Sabrina, just because I kind of rushed through you growing up from working at party city until you went to college, did you work at any other positions as well? Did you have any other jobs? Yeah. So when I was doing my, um, master degrees in public health, I worked at a primary care office internal meant on doing medical assisting. Andi also work at mental health, uh, company where I will go into homes for adult with mental retardation on really help them on a daily functioning. So ah, lot of things is to combine it into the medical field can help me to really learn how to engage with your patients on what that really means for me and Where do I wanted to go as I advance? Was my degree with your physician assistant position. What is something difficult, maybe physically demanding that you have to do. Or is it the time what is difficult and what is something that brings you satisfaction in what you do? The difficult part can be any tough decision we have to make on the spot. Now. Hard long surgery is one of those most intensive subspecialty in medicine because things can go wrong really quickly. Well, we're in the operating room. People can have, Ah, heart attack. We really needed thio operate on them. They're more of urgent cases. The award X mitral valve, those open doors to each chamber off the heart. Those can cause significant heart failure. So we have to really think about the patient condition on then. The new thing we're talking to them about is you do when they come to us, they're not much option. Medical management is not going to work. So the decision is how can we help you to have better quality of life?...

Even though going through a big surgery like this, you might be in the hospital for a week or longer on did you are restricted from doing anything for two months. So some of that difficulty is for people to realize Yes, it's a big deal, but this is the way that we can save your life. And then you can still work up to create something better as you go forward. So tying into how they want to live after surgery is also important because there's study being shown after heart surgery. People have some depression due to the restrictions we have toe put on them. I mean, it's tough, right? We have to open up the sternal. They can't do any heavy weight lifting. They can't dry. They are very constricted in that house. So do you see your patients pre and post surgery as well? Right, Right. I I see them as a consultation to see how sick they are. Go through it. Do they even qualify for surgery? What? We're just keeping an eye on them on. Then after surgery in the I C. U stepped down before we say, Hey, you're you're safe, you can go home or go to rehab. Thio get stronger is the medical field, and I've had some experience and it just through medical purposes is it is difficult is it is challenging because I think from your consultant and speaker position. What you're bringing also with your podcast is well is you're hoping that all professionals, but in particular health care professionals, can be encouraged by what you're bringing to the table. So how stressful. How difficult is it for your co workers and not your co workers in particular toe Call anyone out, but just in the medical field in general. How difficult is it for most people? Yeah, it's such a great question study have been show. Even before Cove in 19, the health care professional have a burned out rate much higher than the average American. In fact, it is 200% full higher of suicidal ideation, which means they're already at the end stage of burned out. So the beginning of burned out you start feeling exhausted, frequently getting sick, and then the second phase is more cynicism. Complain nothing else. While you're blaming Andi, start getting into your mental well, Sabrina, Before you go further into that, there's a lot you mentioned. It's very high and medical, the medical field, but a lot of these are obviously characteristics or symptoms in other professions, too. So if anyone's listening to this and saying, Yeah, you know, I'm I'm tired and burned out I'm a little cynical here. And so these might touch upon some of the some warning signs for other people in other professions. Correct? Correct, because burnout is not just, ah, a health care professional issue. In fact, a recent study on the last year showing Age of Burned out was 32 years old and actually was on Fox News and ABC talking about this issue. If you think about the age is being so young and that's across the board, it doesn't have any professional tied. So how can we really solidify well, your early thirties? It should just be the time that you start working and you start making something meaningful for yourself. If we already burned also early, what about the next 2030 years of our life, right? We can't just say, Well, I don't even know what to dio but actually is not. A burned out on stress management issue, as I mentioned is how do we make decisions create boundaries on that, actually leading life by having that clarity of how you want to show up who you want to be. So, Sabrina, I know you have three steps that help people reach and maintain their peak...

...performance. Can you give us an idea of what those are to help people? Andi, I'd like people to find you and talk to you and reach out to you. But just a little snapshot of how you direct people to avoid being burned out. Yes. So I believe that we are hardworking, ambitious people. And we didn't just get to where we are by doing nothing on. Then we also didn't get to where we are. Just hate what we're doing on. Therefore, we can reconnect. We are most motivation with our interest. So the number one step is redefine up motivation, getting clarity. Um, what is that life that we wanted to create? I have a very visualized picture. And on top of that, connect to your emotional game. Do you find a lot of people are not defining their motivation at first, which is one of the first. It's like setting out to sea on a ship and not really having a plan. A direction where they're going and they get down there. Ship, they're just floating. Okay, I'm doing what I'm supposed you know. My parents told me I need to be a doctor or lawyer, and I'm doing it. Then they're just floating aimlessly in the ocean. Is are you finding that a lot of people just don't have that first step of not having a mission? Not having a vision, Not having a motivation written down, right? Correct. Just like you're saying a meal and then go are completely different. Means goal is to get a good degree, get a good job having ah house for even a beach resort. Whatever you want, right? In that sense, I have my check box off relationship. I have my check box of the car. I have my check box of a job. But once all these check box are made, what do you feel? Who are you as a person? Do you just repeating the same thing every day? How is that going to create? Motivation is not It's not creating momentum, but we have to realign with ourselves. So something that my client love is I create this burnout, bulletproof worksheet and then I say we all deserve toe. Have some me time every week. Just grab your favorite coffee drinks, whatnot and then work on that redefine. What are the top three value system you want to hold? Because that can help you to say no to all the distractions. And then we won't feel like Oh my gosh. And I'm missing out some opportunity. No, it's not gonna help you move forward. So if we you predetermined what you want to dio, then you don't feel so bad about all things that other people expect of you or even our own head. There are 40 to 80,000 million of thousands off thoughts popping into your head every day on more than 80% of them are from previous day. So we're constantly bombarded with different thoughts. If we're not reach checking in with ourselves knowing who I reach out to to elevate myself, what are the things I needed to cut? What are the things that really will push me forward and move the needle, not just robbing my time. Then of course, you can start to have ah vision and then you can keep yourself going. So that's the number one, creating a clear image off the future, then break it down into small, tiny steps, which will give you the mo mentum and motivation to keep going. Because the tiny steps we feel like more rewarded did something. It works okay, that I can do more. Why did something small? It didn't work, But it's a commitment. No, I know I need to pivot. So I am also are able to change. So as I think about that, it's you have a goal set before you and then if you...

...want to say actual steps, the steps to get there is part two or, you know, ah, walking trail. You have a ning goal and some pads that you have to step on in order to get There is my understanding that correctly, right? I don't people to do a whole plan. Fret right? Whether you're the big organization around your own business, I recommend Let's reflect on last year what worked for you. What really ignite you? Are we always going to find good things within the bad, and then we can use to plan out your next best 90 days and even think Can you just commit to do today and the next week. So the short term commitment is actually will help us to go forward. So your step three. So first one is, uh, a mission, motivation or global clearing. You step your steps. First part two and then part three. So, actually, those are part one is redefine your motivation and create momentum is part one. Part two is reboot your immunity of your mental immunity because in positive psychology waste a success is measured by intelligence. Right? Your i q e que, All the degrees, all the experience you had to work toward something and plus P Q. Which means what are the sabotaging tendency there, nine of them between judgment, controlling police or avoidance All the things if we know are sabotaging tendency and then learn to neural modulating, pivot ourselves into that empowerment state, right? Become more empathetic, be innovator. Be creative, right? And then you can really be successful because it doesn't matter how many degrees Hominy letter behind our name. They're just knowledge base. If we're not using them correctly, we're still allowing ourselves Tajik tendencies. Pull our ourselves down. So, Master, our psychology is a huge component of how to feel satisfaction. Okay, so it was number one setting your goal, setting your steps and then to getting empowerment over your mental capacity. Correct on now, our last step is reboot your efficiency by having micro vacations. So what that means is we all have natural energy cycles within us, and there's four different types. If you know your natural energy cycle, you can control your sleep. Better work out to reboot your energy. Andi. I also teach people within two minutes to reset your energy and focus. We don't really need to take a whole half hour, 20 minutes to do yoga. Meditation. We can do these smaller exercises really knowing your body, your breathing, and change your minds thinking so then you're not carrying any burden from one event to the next. You're starting fresh throughout the day, so the biggest problem most people is they work so hard, and by the time they go home, they're so exhausted, like sit down on the couch. They can't even do anything on the after dinner there already meaning to go to sleep. And how is that really creating a meaningful life so can review our energy throughout the day. It actually allow us to be more focused. Spend last time to do each task instead of, well, give me five minutes. Let me just finish this email and then five minutes later you probably still working on it and not done. Yeah, that last point of many people and myself included. If something happens negatively in the day, you're carrying it over to the next moment in...

...the next hour and then throughout your day. And it would be to everyone's advantage, even not yourself but other people around you to reboot your mind and think differently about what you're experiencing and have that little mental vacation and and thio refresh and be more efficient in your work. Yeah, exactly. You all deserve this. I think in many people I talked Thio doesn't matter if there are consultant or they medicine or law well, feel like, Oh, there's so much to do. I came across all my to do list. I don't even know what the next level means to me because they are just constantly doing stuff I never allow themselves to reset when we reset. It's not about just do nothing. It's actually regenerating our energy. Be more aware of our body, our situation. So then we can start fresh on a good note. It reminds me of people who tend to be out of shape on they don't exercise what? They're taking medication to help them because of the things they're not doing because they're out of shape. And then I'm taking this pill to help with this. But then I have to take this pill pill to help with the pill that I just took. And this this cycle people get into and they're just like, Oh, this is just how I live. This is and and don't get me wrong there. People need to take medication and all of that, but some of it is self induced. Ah, lot of this stuff can be done away with if people really, even within your steps, have a written goal, reassess themselves, have a mental mental break, and also just keep going and and learn some of the efficiency and realize that our brain and our thinking has toe have a connection with the education that we're gaining along the way because it doesn't matter what we know. It matters what we're doing with what we know exactly so right. That last part is no matter what, many people have happiness on the fluctuation skill they can heighten with. Sustained on. That's what I hoping people to do is once you can master your psychology on your master, your energy, you can heighten everything you're doing and sustain it just because you learn this one trick, reading more audios or take another course. But it's again building the skill. How are you translating all those skills into your life that will keep you moving forward? That's more important. Sabrina, Speaking of skills in the medical field, What is this skill that you had? You got all of this knowledge, but what is something that you had to learn, especially with patients? What is something that you had to work on or still working on? That's good for people to understand. It's It's one of these skills that are necessary thio to be in the medical field. I always advise on my piece. Student medical students having a good report with your patient is so crucial on number. One thing you should learn is actively listening. We are in a position off, always educating people because we have more knowledge. But it's knowing what they want out of the treatment plan and that will allow them to generate some motivation to even complying to the advice is we have, If we're just simply tell them what to do. No one likes to be told. Doesn't matter if your authority or not. And in medicine, in, just like any service industry, they can fire us as easily to go to another physician, another hospital. So how we're making that connection. I have so many times that I am seeing that my patients firing everybody else around me. But I'm the team that's there because some people don't take that little tiny time to understanding the person and not just...

...fixing their disease process and move on. You said something interesting. I never thought of it that way. That any sort of business. If someone's not coming to you, that may have been to see you at one time. They're actually firing you right? You may not lose your job, but that's service. That's not coming. The person is not coming back for the service. They just fired you. They're just gone to somebody else. right. And my other principle is if I know my value, like from a coaching side or from medicine side, If I know my value, that's the person. I definitely need help because I have burst now. I won't know them. But if they leave me, that means someone else might not be as qualified. They're seeking elsewhere. I can't guarantee that. So if I have, the resource is I know my value. I know them so well that I'm going to make sure they understand the decision. And they're making. They understand the consequences off in activity And just like patients who refuse to go to surgery versus two people who feel like Oh, you know what? Let me just figure out my there's too many of us who are smart, can figure your things out. But how long would that take? You toe work on yourself and when you can't even see your own blind spot? Sabrina, what is your number one? So you're very productive. You said earlier to me you only work 5.5 days, but you're also doing consulting. You're doing this. This takes up your time. But you also have friends and all of that. What is your number one? What is your mission statement? So my mission is I support ambitious professionals, especially who consider themselves busy who think there's more to life. How can we actually save ourselves time from just working for the sake of working and gain back at these eight hours per month and increasing productivity by 30%? So then we can be both ah powerhouse in your career and a passionate person in life without feeling that overwhelmed, under appreciate or undervalued on. At the end of the day, everyone wanted to live comfortable and fulfilled. But if we're just driven by the high Penis part, it's also hard to chase happiness. But if we live in fulfillment, knowing it did Matt to people around us and then bigger society keep going, it's, I think I need to commend you again because the idea of working with someone along alongside of you, for instance, in the hospital and there's lots of people who know there's a problem, right? They have burnout. They're not really content. They don't have a mission. But then for you to come in and say, Well, here's ways we can you know all work together. So we have this part of our job that we have to do. We know this is what we have to dio. But here's the other side that's giving us the challenge and for you to come in in the workplace and say, Listen, I'm working on this outside of work on how to help people just like us. So I commend you again for taking the initiative because not all people do. Many people face similar problems in the workplace, but there's not the go getter, the person who's willing toe to really think about it and go through the process of how can we have a solution so we can do the job that we love to help the patients that we love or, you know, provide the product or service whatever it is we're doing, rather than just getting in at the water cooler and complaining like everyone else Or, you know, being sad or depressed, however, you wanna look at it. So I think you're doing a very good job. Sabrina, is there something that you do that you have a tool that you have in your work that just you need it keeps you most efficient, something that's essential to you.

Yeah, there's well, I train people with the three steps and we bring it into detail with six. And some stuff I mentioned earlier is that burned out alignment worksheet, something you can do on a weekly basis. And, um, for anybody who come to me as a client, I have them take 100 question question year on their whole life. So we're really looking at What are you? Number one blocker that's holding your back versus the elements of your life are actually driving you forward. So then we can leverage on your strength and bring out the weakness to the surface. Because most of time when you think about avoidance, tendency is, oh, no time will solve that right. But time will never solve something that's still a problem. It will re surface. So if we proactively look at them and we acknowledge them and decided to do something about it, then it won't show up unexpectedly into later on your life. On on top of that, I also helping people to train your possible intelligence with these activities and through my, um, my coach has an app. So I That's what something you really don't even have to remind yourself. Thio, take these breaks because the app reminds you and then you already working on these things to really change the way that we think the change the way that we can pivot out of difficult situations. So is this your APP? Is this something they have access through when they come for you for consulting, right? So it's my account through the coaching that I have from one of the professors in Stanford. So for people who I coach, they also have the app access throughout the time that they're with me. So we have additional resource is besides what we can train on the 1 to 1 level knowing Sabrina, that you know, you your story is interesting and your first experience with work. You know, we always do chores and stuff around the house, but you were out selling pots and pans. You worked at Party City. You got into health care. You had difficulty in your job, so you kind of probably considered not doing it. But that's your business. But there's other people that are just getting into work, just like you. There's also other people in difficulties in their job. They want to switch to another career. Do you have a tip for people who are just getting into work, or maybe just switching their career into something else? I think those air two different type of group when people have never had a job. It's the first real job. You have to learn a lot about interpersonal skills, and that's the influence part. When I mentioned earlier, how can you not accidentally diminishing those around you? There's six different type and attract the talent to you. So when you have, ah, new idea in mind that you want to implement for your team, people are not always pushing back because all of them so well and you know how to communicate and then deliver the message now people who already pivot out the for many of them that I have worked with, they thought just because I changed my job, things will be fine. But if you don't have the basic skills removing yourself touching tendency, no matter what new job you started, those things will still drag you down. You're still gonna have repetitive issue doing more a reflection Diagnostic. I'm working with a cultural really think about are some of the internal system Do you have one? Not just to say, Well,...

I know how to work. I do time, block, yada, yada. But if you don't have a system to master your own psychology to really understand how to be influential, then you're always going to go back to the same trouble. So that's why I say there's a different things. The newcomers are just so excited that they have a job. So they're start to learn the task, the doing part again, right? Like we're so focused on doing. And we also need to learn the interpersonal part because that's how we wanted to continue to move forward. Once you become efficient, you become the expert in your field. Now, the people who are pivoting start thinking about what are the trump hold you in the previous job? How can you pivot those out? What are the sabotaging tendency you have? And if you don't know, then talk to someone and so you can get yourself to a spot that you're not gonna feel like, Oh, this is new and exciting new career. But I might be bored or I don't see how I imagine this job. Look at me, Sabrina. How do you reboot your efficiency? How do you make the you know your work life choices on a daily basis? How do you separate your work and the things that you do in your life to give you a mental reboot? So that's the two minutes mental vacation we talk about. Andi, Um, we can do this even right now. So no matter if hopefully you're not driving right now, so you can do this exercise. You can be sitting or standing. Actually, standing is doing as well. So put your feet on the ground, right? Wiggle your toes. Feel all your toes flat on the ground. I just drop your shoulder feeling like your neck case relaxed jaws your entire face. They relaxed. If you can close your eyes, that's great, because vision very destructive. You want to take two quick breath ing on. Slow breath out on 543 to 1. Hold your breast for 3211 Quick to breath in slow breath out. 54321 Hold your buys for three to well and then just notice the air going in and out your nostril is that warm? It's a cold like you stuff settle backing to that regular breathing. So when we actually quick breath in and slow breath out, that is going to help us to slow down our heart rate. And now I want you to put to your hands together on just lightly gently rub the fingers together, filling the softness, smoothness, roughness of your now bed on. We want to focus on Lee on the sensation of touch, making circles on your finger and any other thought when it's not the sensation off touched business. More dryness, severe print the lights and fly ever Are you like a Web? Forget for having those thoughts, but concentrating on the sensation touch and settle your breath in. I'm feeling that your whole body is relaxed and when you're ready before you open your eyes, set the intention of how you want to show up. What is that word? Adjective. Weird amount. Once you that word, go ahead, open your eyes that by doing that, it would solve a lot of problems in the world, a lot less fighting a lot less stress a lot of less people doing things that they shouldn't dio.

What? So, yeah, this this exercises, we intentionally we use one of the five senses. We use breath and we use touch. Now there are many different other exercise where we use official or smell What not? But this is a very easy way that you can get into. We intentionally pivot our mind, our thinking into just a simple way of touch on our breath, and we're no longer concentrating on any off the mental chatter coming to us. So that's how we can refocus and really, really quickly. Sabrina, thinking about work in just your experience. Is there a mistake that you made that you learn from and you bring that experience forward with you in your career? Yes. The mistake was I was saying in my earlier days, I felt like I have to be the one who do everything, and I think this is a very common tendency with many type A people who are just because you feel like, Well, if I have to explain to other people that takes the extra five minutes, I could just do it faster. But that means we're dumping more and more stuff, adding onto our to do list. But they're actually not something that will help us to go forward. We don't have enough trust in other people, and that's why we feel like we need to control and increase more anxiety for ourselves on then, robbing our own time. So learning to let go of control by creating that friendly relationship, getting to know your team, your co workers and even family. And so you really would want to be in the position you're not free to ask for help on. Gyu can communicate that easily on Have a system to check back on them. Sabrina. Thinking of character in your career? What is the top character trait that you find that it's essential, whether in the health care profession or just in work in general? What is the top character trait? I think the top character tree is knowing that we don't work alone, so the best thing we can do is understand how can we create a network? How can we connect to other people better in health care as hard, long surgery? People don't just come to us. They needed to go see them primary care cardiology. I mean, when they have a trust with us, then the patient is referred to us just like any other field. Now, if we didn't have any connections, we wouldn't even be on the show and having a conversation. So putting yourself out there to make that deliberate connection and coming from a position that all you want to do is to connect, to figure out who they if you value. And that's all that matters because things just gonna go back. Yeah, that's kind of transparency or being authentic to being ableto work in a team and to connect with other people. What about your view? And especially coming up from from an Asian culture where I have a lot of experience that education is so important? How what is your view on education for people who may not get into a professional field of work? But what what do you think is important or not important about education, whether formal or informal, right? It all depends on what you want to do. There's a structure for certain things like medicine. You have to get certain degrees, a nursing, a P A and medical and that's the structure that it's set. So if you choose to go down some career path that has a steps already said for you, then that's the clarity you have to give to yourself. I'm going to be committed for X amount...

...of years to do this because that will match my future value. Most people, when they start doing either, ah, additional degree, even some of my client, they already are well known. But they wanted to go higher up so they or ask me, Oh, Sabrina, should I get a MBA? Should I get another PhD That My question is, Why? How is this going to help you just have those letters behind your name? Those additional ones? Not necessarily. You still need the connection. Peace. First, you need to see what the gap there is so you can fill that gap and not just opportunity. Thinking a degree will equal Ah, happiness or degree with equals, the amount of money that you can generate on top of it. Because this input output thing, your output is our ally, right? Most people just thinking, Oh, I did this should give me some value system, but what else is missing is your future value. Does the line was what you want in the future, and there's a line with your future lifestyle also does align with helping you to grow as a person. It's and I did not growing up. Think forward enough into research. So taking a doctor, for instance, or someone in the medical field or some other position, professional position really do your research to find out what are the requirements so that you're not so what? You shouldn't be surprised if you have a goal of being a certain profession. You shouldn't be surprised that all you have to take a master's degree after high school or a doctor degree or you have to do the residency. Or you might have to get further education a long way. You should have that at least, but also answering Why is very important why you're going to do this? Why is this necessary for you? Is this something that you really want to dio? And I think Ah, lot of people miss that because some whether it's cultural or just family driven, a lot of people do not have that advice coming to them to just it and it doesn't take a long time to research. Well, if you have an idea about this position, what do most people in this field what is required of them? What is expected of them into look there and then come back and see where I am and then follow that path along the way, but also asking yourself, Why is essential? Correct, Sabrina, What about your goal for your work, whether in the health care profession or being as a consultant? What is your overarching goal? Mayor arching goal really is to be in a position that I'm a value resource to connect people with the right place to help them. To understand, no matter what you want to do, it's possible you need to have an internal system to do that just because you have a business structure. Just because your company organization offered leadership training, it's not going to be enough. And let's not rely on external structure every time we can change our own attitude. Our own decision on it's okay to say no, because every no leads you to say Heck yes to the things that actually will light you up in the world, Sabrina your your hard work. I know this because before we started, you didn't mention it at all now. But you have a sore throat. Now you're feeling a little bit under the weather, so I do commend you again. For even though you may not be feeling as well a tip top as you usually do, you're still going through this without even complaint. So I think you're even putting into practice the thing you're talking about. You you know, you can take your break. You have your tea. Is there anything else people may not understand about you that if they understood this, they would have a better appreciation of the work that you're accomplishing.

I would want people to actually just understand their own self. And there's not much we can say. We can explain our omission in my connect with X y Z people, but at the end of the day, we need to understand what we truly want out of life. And then if we can do that, then things are naturally coming back to us. So really, and not feeling like we're back to go to find these resource is because I believe sources out there all the time. We just have to be in a position to open, to receive, and that sometimes can be the most difficult thing. Speaking of difficult things, having your mom go through a knacks id int that is difficult being having a temperature of 101 and having toe work. And, you know, being stressed out by your job is difficult. Is there any other adversity that you had faced in your life that both negatively and positively affect your work where you can use that as an encouragement, the other people who are facing maybe similar adversity in their work? Yeah, I think relationship is like crucial part off all of us. Whether is your significant other family friends. We need to have that one of the thing that when speakers come onto my show, I have them take this three minutes. Assessment. Ah, lot of them. The shorter end of things is social connections and relationships, and now we question, Do we really work to live or live to work on? But I think I would see in that position where when I was stuck in doing surgeries, back to back, working at 80 plus hours like doesn't seem like there's the end of the day. I was missing out on a lot of of my relationships, and you still want to go out, hang out with friends and have your partner. But also knowing how are you supporting each other matters whole lot because it's not just our physical body. Our mental wellness need to be on top of things. We grow as a human being where were community based people? So if you don't have a strong family background, were friends and the people who you can always go back to and they will support you no matter what, then we're always in the Lonely Island. Doesn't matter how successful you think you become, so that's what I learned is sap. When there's a bad relationship, you also need to cut. That one is not supportive, and then we also need to learn that overcoming that it's not it's just bad. We can all learn something from those relationships those connections on. We carry that out as this is what I want going forward and therefore whatever didn't happen, where wasn't fit in your life can just leave behind no longer needed resurface and making new connections and building another community that is more supportive, whatever whatever you like. Is there anything else that we haven't touched upon Sabrina's or anything else that you would like to add? Any final thoughts? Yeah, I think going back to the whole thing. I really want people Thio. We have to say no to almost everything. So then we can say, Hey, yes, to the only things that truly matter to all of us. Sabrina, how can they reach you? How can they get in touch with you?
